Alumni Scholarships
Official Rules

The time to submit an application is closed.

Email whsmchsalumnischolarship@gmail.com to request an Alumni Scholarship application packet.

Read the following instructions carefully. If the following items are not included with the return packet, the application will be disqualified from consideration for a scholarship.

  1. Each applicant must be either (a) a current high school senior graduate of Monroe Central High School, or (b) a current high school senior graduate who is a direct descendant of a Woodsfield High School or a Monroe Central High School graduate-alumnus (a direct descendant is considered a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, great-grandmother or great-grandfather; not a cousin, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, or the like). Each applicant must complete the Alumni Scholarship Application. All relevant information must be completed.

  2. Each application must be accompanied by a copy of your most recent high school transcript that includes your overall cumulative GPA.

  3. Each applicant must have been accepted into a secondary educational institution for collegiate or vocational training to qualify for a scholarship. All applications must include a copy of the official acceptance letter with the college or university name present in the letterhead and the attending student's name included on the letter.

  4. Each applicant must include a photograph for possible publication in the local news media. Winner's photos will be published in the Monroe County Beacon and displayed in a window during the Alumni Weekend. To ensure each photo meets consistency requirements for display and publication, each photograph must measure at least 3 inches by 5 inches in size and must not contain the word “proof” or be otherwise proof-stamped, or include the photographer's name or studio’s name. If a picture does not meet these standards or is not included in the return packet, the applicant will be disqualified. Photographs will not be returned.

  5. All applications must also include a one (1), but no more than two (2) page type-written essay on the chosen topic. Each essay shall be graded according to the scoring matrix included in each application packet. There are four grading categories, each ranking from a scale of 0-4, for a potential total of 16 points. Each essay must have a cumulative score of 12 points or higher to qualify for a scholarship. In the event of a tie, the cumulative GPA of each applicant will be used as a secondary grading factor.

Email completed packets to whsmchsalumnischolarship@gmail.com by May 15th. In the spirit of fairness, no exceptions will be made after the deadline.

Winners will be notified at the provided email listed in the application.

All winners are strongly encouraged to attend the Alumni Weekend Reunion for the scholarship winner announcement at the Alumni Reunion (specific date and time will be provided in the winner notification email).
